Can You Beat Roulette?

If you Google the phrase “winning roulette system”, you will see some pretty outlandish suggestions from the search engine.  It suggests you try searching for “winning roulette system using chaos theory,” and “have you tried the banned roulette system.”  Look down the search results, and you will find dozens of so-called systems for winning roulette.

Believe it or not, some of these systems do work in offline settings to some extent.  That chaos theory system mentioned earlier actually was developed by researchers who reported their results in the journal Chaos.  According to researcher Michael Small, “Knowing the initial conditions allows you to beat the odds.  In some cases you can beat them quite significantly.” 

While the researchers used precise modeling and measurement strategies, they released a simpler method which gamblers in casinos can use.  Step one is to try to time the ball’s velocity.  From there it is possible to extrapolate where it could land.  While a -2.7% return is typical for roulette, these researchers were able to turn it into an 18% return.  That is quite impressive.  They also add that if you manage to find a table which is crooked, it is even easier to make solid predictions about where the ball will land.

There are a couple of snags here.  The first is that casinos can use this information too.  They are able to make small adjustments to the game which prevent physics-savvy gamblers from getting the upper hand.

The second snag is hopefully already obvious.  Roulette systems that provide results are physics-based, and in the world of online gambling, physics doesn’t really apply!  There is no literal wheel and no literal ball, so calculations involving velocity are utterly useless.  The wheel you see spinning is computer-generated, and the results come from random number generators, just like online slot machine results.

For this reason, there is no such thing as a roulette system which you can use online to your advantage!  If you play offline a well as online, feel free to experiment with some of the physics-based systems you see, but know that other systems are not going to work because the roulette wheel “resets” every time.  In other words, it does not remember previous spins!  There are money management tactics which can help you, but no actual systems which can predict the movement of the ball outside of physics.

Online, you would do best to avoid the temptation to shop around for such a system.  Otherwise you will just pour hundreds or thousands of dollars down the drain.  In all frankness, there is a much easier (and more fun) way of doing that … and it’s called roulette. 

Roulette is random, especially online, but that’s why it’s so fun!  You might get lucky, but you shouldn’t go in expecting it, and you should never fool yourself into thinking you have a strategy when you do not.  The key to responsible gambling is to acknowledge and accept the risks.  Roulette online is a very risky game, so play it as such, and manage your money wisely!
